Some 10 % of the whole of Sweden is designated as Nature Reserve space – the size of the whole of Denmark. Located closest to Stockholm, a mere 20 km south, is the Tyresta Nature Reserve. Tyresta is characterised by rift valley landscapes that are common around the Central Swedish region.
Tyresta is a primeval forest, also known as an old growth forest which is a forest that has not been disturbed over a long time. In the case of this nature park, according to wikipedia, Tyresta is notable for “containing one of the largest coniferous old-growth forests in southern Sweden, with some parts of the forest containing pine trees up to 400 years old.”
